SAFE2RIDE is a research and development project aimed at improving protection for motorcyclists, cyclists and e-scooter users. Its objective is to create a modular experimental platform that can be installed on an existing acceleration sled to reproduce representative collisions between two-wheeled vehicles and passenger cars under controlled conditions. The system will enable integrated testing of the vehicle, an instrumented dummy representing the rider and passive safety devices. Its reconfigurable architecture will accommodate different geometries, masses, speeds, contact conditions and crash scenarios. Test cases will be defined through the analysis and computational reconstruction of real-world crashes. Multiphysics and structural digital twins will support system design, predict its behaviour and reduce the number of physical tests required. Experimental results will then validate these models and generate reproducible biomechanical data. SAFE2RIDE will also establish a common methodology and propose pre-normative testing protocols. Compared with conventional full-scale crash tests, it will provide non-destructive, repeatable testing at an estimated cost four to five times lower. The 36-month project, led by ADDITIUM and Comillas Pontifical University with the collaboration of AUTOLIV, aims to reach technology readiness level TRL 7

Layman's summary: SAFE2RIDE will create a modular, reusable platform to simulate real crashes involving motorcycles, bicycles and e-scooters. It will enable lower-cost testing of protective systems, improve their design and support safer mobility.

Techniques employed: Data analyses, computational modeling, crash tests
